Story Behind the Invention

Janet Gray-Moore
Inventor Janet Gray-Moore, PT of Port Clinton, OH has created a device to minimize physical strain and discomfort in the neck and upper back for ceiling painters or anyone performing prolonged overhead tasks.

Several years ago, Janet faced a common but frustrating problem. While painting her bedroom ceiling, she experienced neck pain from constantly looking upward. Determined to find relief, Janet (a physical therapist with 38 years of experience) decided to get creative. She rolled up a towel, placed it behind her neck, and pinned it together in the front to keep it in place. However, the towel would slide back every time she tilted her head, leaving her unsupported and uncomfortable

Not willing to give up, Janet devised an improved solution. She unrolled the towel, placed the tie from her house robe inside, and rolled it up again. Securing the robe tie to her belt loops, she anchored the towel in place so it wouldn’t shift when she leaned her head back. This simple setup worked wonderfully, providing the neck support she needed and making her painting task infinitely more comfortable. This makeshift neck support laid the groundwork for something bigger – the creation of the Neck Mate!

Whether you are painting ceilings, installing fixtures, or performing any activity above eye level, the Neck Mate will ensure you maintain an optimal head position without compromising productivity. The invention will reduce the weight of the head on the neck joints and nerves, which will reduce the possibility of permanent damage and inability to continue this sort of work as one ages. The device greatly minimizes stress and discomfort in the cervical spine and neck muscles, boosting both efficiency and well-being for you or your employees!
